About the Department

The department of political science was established in the year 1996. Presently the department has 25 seats for honours course and there are more than 500 students enrolled in the general course. The department of political science conducts classes according to the syllabus provided by the university of calcutta. Informative lectures along with ample study materials are provided by the faculty members to the students which has helped the department to maintain a consistent record of academic success over the years. Students in the department are encouraged to pursue higher studies to enhance their knowledge and compete in various national and state-level competetive examinations. With this aim in mind, the political science department organizes class lectures, along with inter-disciplinary classes, interactive sessions, use of political maps, discussion on current affairs, tutorial classes, power point presentations through which the students can get a broader perspective of the latest socio-political developments. All the teachers of the department are engaged in research and academic activities and a number of senior teachers have publications in various books and journals to their credit.

Infrastructural Facilities

  1. The political science department has a separate seminar library for the benefit of the honours students, with a significant number of books being added every year.
  2. The smart classroom, with digital projection system and touch-enabled smart-board is used for screening documentary films, short films and other audio-visual content.

  2. Students participate in sports and cultural activities organized by the college.
  3. The department has also organized a number of ugc sponsored national seminar on various aspects of political affairs.
  4. Job Prospect

  1. Many students pursue higher studies and complete their post-graduation in political science.
  2. A number of students are employed in school service commission
  3. Many students' of our department are presently serving in various government and private sectors such as banking, healthcare, police department and marketing.
